Unit arrives in working condition, although a bit off calibration.

Some IPA (isopropyl alcohol) gets rid of the handwritten markings on the front.

Single screw releases the case halves which are clipped together.

This is a problem waiting to happen.

Two-PCB construction.  All through-hole components.

Top board.

100mA fuse on the inputs.

Rotary switch.  Needs a little cleaning.

A/D converter/LCD driver is a Maxim MAX130CPL, which is a drop-in replacement for ICL7106.  Date code indicates this unit is made in 1989.

There are many TL062 op-amps in 8-pin DIP packages, only one of which is socketed.

The test socket was attached with hot glue, making it difficult to separate the PCB from the top case half.

Contacts are mangled.  This will need refurbishing.

Another accident waiting to happen. Where was Quality Control when this was made?

A hot glue mess. Design Engineering was also out drinking with the Quality Control department.

Cleaned up the hot glue.  This was not well-contructed at all.

Another problem, the vias have been filled with solder, making bumps that the rotary switch contacts have to ride over.

Removed the solder from each via. This should make the rotary switch more reliable.

Found something to make a new test socket. Need 5 contacts on each side but the junk drawer only yields these 8-pin sockets.

Sockets de-constructed.

And re-constructed into a single row of 5 pins all shorted together.

New test sockets installed.

Nice snug fit, no hot glue will be necessary.

Tweaked the calibration a bit. 806-ohm precision resistor.

100nF capacitor.

220 uH inductor.
