Fluke 83-III Rotary Switch

Meter assembly removed from case, front side.

Mind the T-shaped tabs at the top when removing the rear shield.

Gently push the clips one at a time to remove the LCD assembly.

Mind the 2-pin backlight connection.

Two elastomeric connectors (zebra strips) connect the LCD to the circuit board. Do not touch the surface. Clean with IPA.

Shield front and rear halves. The gold disc in the bottom half is the piezo beeper. The LCD assembly is part of the front.

Code switch and rotor on the back side of the circuit board.

Gently pry the rotor with plastic tools. Careful not to break the SMD resistors.

Top rotor removed.

Switch contacts cleaned.

Top and bottom switch rotors. Be sure to clean these contacts.

Re-install rotor with a gentle and even squeeze.

Make sure rotor AND the switch knob both are in the OFF position so they will line up correctly.

When re-assembling the case, snap the top edge of both halves together first.

A tiny dab of petroleum jelly on the self-tapping case screws will make them turn easy and help preserve the plastic threads.

After the switch cleaning, the ohms range no longer exhibits any problems.
